Faith-Based Recovery Support
Faith-based recovery support services are various houses of worship that integrate their religious beliefs and/or varying forms of spirituality into addiction recovery.
The heightened awareness of substance use disorders has led to an increasing number of support services provided by different faith-based communities, such as:
- Sponsorship opportunities
- Development of recovery-friendly churches
- Integration of ‘recovery pastors’
- Facilitation of recovery support groups
While increasing in number, more research is needed to identify the relative effectiveness of these religious-based interventions in facilitating long-term recovery and preventing relapse.
