Peer Integration & Stages of Change Toolkit

From the New York State Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services

The Peer Integration and Stages of Change Toolkit is a newly released guide on how to integrate peer recovery services for substance use disorder into current service delivery systems.

PEER SERVICES INCLUDE:

Types of peer service professions for addiction and substance use disorder

“The integration of peer recovery support services within addiction treatment programs is a clinically and cost-effective strategy of extending models of acute biopsychosocial stabilization to models of sustained recovery management that address the support needs of individuals and families across the multiple stages of recovery. Such services hold great promise in shortening addiction careers (via recovery-focused community education and assertive outreach), enhancing treatment engagement and retention, and enhancing long-term recovery outcomes via post-treatment monitoring, stage appropriate recovery education and support, and, if and when needed, early re-intervention.” – William L. White
